Avoidance vs. Permanent Removal

We focus exclusively on permanent, engineered removal. We only purchase carbon removal credits that are verified for 1000+ years from established registries.

Traditional Offsets (Avoidance)

Paying another entity to not emit carbon (e.g., paying to protect a forest that might not have been cut down anyway). While conservation is important, it does not reduce the total amount of CO₂ already in the atmosphere. Furthermore, forests can burn, releasing the carbon back immediately.

What is Biochar?
Nature's Carbon Vault

Plants naturally draw down CO₂ from the atmosphere during photosynthesis. However, when plants die and decompose, all that captured carbon is released back into the air.

Biochar interrupts this cycle. Through a process called pyrolysis—baking agricultural or forestry waste in an oxygen-free environment at high temperatures—the organic carbon is converted into a highly stable, solid, charcoal-like structure.

We currently source our carbon removal exclusively through Puro.earth, the world’s leading crediting platform for engineered carbon removal. The Puro Standard ensures all projects meet the highest environmental criteria while guaranteeing net-negative emissions.

Rigorous MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification)

Puro.earth mandates strict, independent third-party auditing via designated verification bodies. These auditors physically and scientifically verify the entire Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the biochar facility, ensuring that the emissions generated during production and transport are fully deducted, and the remaining carbon is genuinely locked away for millennia.

Issuance of CORCs (CO₂ Removal Certificates)

When carbon dioxide is verified as permanently removed, Puro.earth issues a CORC. Importantly, these are issued "ex-post", meaning the removal has already physically occurred.

Each CORC has a unique serial number tracked in a public registry. When you purchase from us, the corresponding CORCs are permanently retired in your name. This transparent audit trail ensures the carbon removal can never be resold or double-counted.
